True Disciples Do Good Deeds

We who claim to belong to Christ are commanded to love others through actions, not merely with words.

“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us demonstrate the truth of what we claim by our actions.” 1 John 3:18

Those who truly believe in Christ are indwelt with the Spirit and the love of Christ that manifests itself through doing good deeds.

“For what good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by actions, is dead.” James 2:14-17

When Jesus described how he will separate the sheep (true believers) from the goats (false believers) he explains that we show his love within us through acts of compassion.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'” Matthew 25:35-40

Jesus commands His followers to love each other as He loved them, and His love was demonstrated through sacrificial action (ultimately laying down His life). This love is the proof of our truly being his disciples.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35

The love of Christactively seeks the well-being of others through compassionate deeds and selfless service. Love Eachother

“Godly Love is sincere. It hates evil and clings to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:9-10
