FORGIVENESS

Is it impossible to forgive and forget an offense?
Some offenses we can forgive immediately, others disappear into faded memory. But some bad acts seem impossible to forget. We replay the offense over and over, refreshing its painful memory in our mind. This is when resentment sets in—and resentment gradually transitions into bitterness which sours our heart and becomes hatred.

So, what do we do?

First, if you have been hurt, forgive. Live as if you have no memory of the wrong suffered. Choose to forgive others when we are hurt. Begin each day with a clean slate, keeping no record of wrongs suffered. For true love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

“Forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future.”
